A side table designed for the Canada-based brand Blackwood Studio.

Ume takes its name from the Japanese plum blossom — a flower associated with simplicity, resilience, and quiet beauty.

Inspired by the principles of Japanese carpentry, Ume explores an all-wood construction free of mechanical fasteners. Rather than literally replicating traditional joinery, it reinterprets these principles through CNC manufacturing and contemporary Canadian woodworking.

Its sculptural design is defined by just three solid wood pieces assembled together, balancing organic curves with precise geometry. The result is a restrained yet expressive object, evoking the delicate form of a blooming petal.
